Banarasi lehenga

Banarasi Lehenga Collection | KCPC Bandhani

Most girls buy the Banarasi lehenga only once. Whether it is their own wedding or someone else’s. This is something that is not worn annually; hence it has to be just right the first time.

KCPC is who we are, and Sikar, Rajasthan is where we hail from. Our family has been involved in this business since 1978 - almost 47 years. Bandhani and Gota Patti are our specialty crafts which we have known all our lives. However, Banarasi lehengas are sourced elsewhere but still go through the same process of quality check.

What Makes It Banarasi

The Banarasi zari embroidery is from Varanasi. It is created using handlooms, not machines. An elaborate outfit which uses zari all over may take almost two weeks to be finished. One lehenga. Two weeks. This is what you get when you purchase this kind of outfit.

We don’t go about buying large amounts of stock and clicking nice pictures of it. Some member of our team actually examines the zari, the color and the fit of the blouse before we advertise it..

Colours And How Heavy The Work Is

For the main wedding day most people still go with red, maroon or wine. If you want something softer, peach, blush and champagne work well for daytime functions. And if you don't want the usual red at all, royal blue, bottle green and mustard look really good too especially in photos.

Some lehengas have zari covering almost the whole fabric. Save those for the wedding or reception; they're the heaviest. Others have worked only on the border and pallu. Those are lighter ,better for sangeet or haldi where you're standing and dancing for hours. Every lehenga comes with a matching blouse and dupatta so you don't have to run around matching colours separately.

Comfort Actually Matters

A wedding function goes on for six, seven hours sometimes. If the lehenga is too heavy or the blouse doesn't fit right you'll feel it by hour two and no photo is worth that. So before anything goes live on the site someone checks the weight of the fabric and how it actually sits on the body. Same process we use for our own bandhani pieces.

A Few Things To Keep In Mind Before You Order

Pick the heaviest piece for the wedding day and go lighter for the smaller functions. Don't wear your heaviest lehenga to haldi, save it.

If you're not sure which colour suits you, maroon, gold and mustard work on most Indian skin tones. Blue and emerald look striking too, especially once the evening lights come on.

Before you order, ask about the fabric weight and how the blouse fits. A lehenga can look perfect in the photo and still feel too tight or too heavy once you're actually wearing it for hours.

And if a colour catches your eye the moment you see it go with that. Photos shift colour a little depending on the light but your first instinct is usually right.

Why People Buy From Us

We didn't start online. KCPC has been running out of sikar since 1978 four generations of the same family doing handloom work. That's still how we check everything banarasi included by hand, not just by photo.

Take your time going through the collection. If you're stuck between two messages,us we'll help you pick.

FAQ

1. What makes a lehenga Banarasi?

The zari work is done the way it's traditionally done in varanasi silk woven with gold or silver zari thread on a handloom.

2. Is a Banarasi lehenga heavy to wear?

The weight of a Banarasi lehenga depends on the design. If a Banarasi lehenga has zari work it will feel heavier. If a Banarasi lehenga has zari on the border it will feel lighter. We list the fabric details on each product page so you can see before you order.

3. Can I wear a Banarasi lehenga for something than a wedding?

Yes. A lighter Banarasi lehenga works well for sangeet, haldi, Diwali, Karva Chauth or any festive gathering. You do not have to save a Banarasi lehenga for your wedding day.

4. How do I know which colour will suit me?

Maroon, gold and mustard usually look good, on skin tones.. Honestly there is no hard rule.

5. Does a Banarasi lehenga come with a blouse and dupatta?

Yes every Banarasi lehenga comes with a blouse and dupatta. The lehenga on the site comes as a complete set, matching blouse and dupatta included.

6. How do I care for the lehenga after wearing it ?

Dry cleaning is the choice, especially when the zari work is heavy. Wrap the lehenga in a cotton cloth and keep it away from direct sunlight so the zari keeps its shine over time.

7. Can I have the lehenga altered to my size?

Most pieces allow alterations. It is best to message us before you order so we can tell you what is possible, for that lehenga.
