What Makes It Banarasi
The Banarasi zari embroidery is from Varanasi. It is created using handlooms, not machines. An elaborate outfit which uses zari all over may take almost two weeks to be finished. One lehenga. Two weeks. This is what you get when you purchase this kind of outfit.
We don’t go about buying large amounts of stock and clicking nice pictures of it. Some member of our team actually examines the zari, the color and the fit of the blouse before we advertise it..
Colours And How Heavy The Work Is
For the main wedding day most people still go with red, maroon or wine. If you want something softer, peach, blush and champagne work well for daytime functions. And if you don't want the usual red at all, royal blue, bottle green and mustard look really good too especially in photos.
Some lehengas have zari covering almost the whole fabric. Save those for the wedding or reception; they're the heaviest. Others have worked only on the border and pallu. Those are lighter ,better for sangeet or haldi where you're standing and dancing for hours. Every lehenga comes with a matching blouse and dupatta so you don't have to run around matching colours separately.

A wedding function goes on for six, seven hours sometimes. If the lehenga is too heavy or the blouse doesn't fit right you'll feel it by hour two and no photo is worth that. And if a colour catches your eye the moment you see it go with that. Photos shift colour a little depending on the light but your first instinct is usually right.
