Traditional Lehenga
Some are for a single night. The traditional lehenga is not one of them.
Every woman in rajasthan can tell you what her first lehenga was like. She will tell you the colour and she will tell you who gifted it to her. This is the type of attire that KCPC Bandhani creates. Not trendy, fast fashion but real artisan work made by hand in Sikar.
This collection has 297 items at the moment. There are some simple enough to wear during a puja in the family while there are some which can be used on the wedding stage.
Factors That Make Lehenga Traditional
The lehenga is made up of three parts. The lehenga, the choli and the dupatta.
Traditional does not have anything to do with the style of the dress. Traditional has something to do with the designs on the fabric.
The traditional lehenga will always be true to its craft. Hand-stitched gota patti. Dot by dot bandhani. Hand-woven zari border. Stone and cutdana embroidery one by one. A printed design can look quite similar to that in the picture within ten minutes on the machine. But you cannot touch that weight in your hands.
This is the difference we need to preserve.
Handwork That Is Here For You
Gota patti: This is indigenous to rajasthan. Thinnest gold or silver ribbons are cut into various forms and sewn on to the fabric. Shapes such as leaves, flowers and borders are created. Our Jaipuri Gota Patti Lehenga Sets are the most favorite ones from this range.
Bandhani: Otherwise known as Bandhej. Thousands of small knots are tied on the cloth which is subsequently dyed. Because of the knot, no color reaches that particular area and so a small white spot appears there. A well-done Bandhani Lehenga will have lakhs of these spots.
Zari work: Gold or silver threads embroidered into the cloth itself. Common in our Banarasi style Lehengas.
Zardozi & Cutdana: Heavier work with metal threads, beads & cuts. Seen on Bridal and Reception Lehengas.
Works well with Mirror and Stone: Picks up light when it is moved. Ideal for evening occasions.
Collection can be filtered according to the type of work. There are nine choices.
Clothing Textiles and Sensory Feel
We have used nine fabrics for this collection. This is a short description.
The gaji silk is a heavy and glossy fabric that holds its form. It has a rich appearance in pictures. Suitable for marriages.
The georgette is smooth and has flow to it. It drapes beautifully and does not weigh much. Suitable all rounder.
The Kota Doria is light with a delicate square weave. Manufactured in Kota. Ideal for summer functions.
The organza is a crisp fabric that is slightly transparent. Gives bulkiness without weighing much.
The Khaddi georgette is heavier than normal georgette and drapes really well.
Chiffon is the most light-weight fabric. Ideal for long-day events.
Cotton and silk can be used for everyday wear.
In case you are confused, consider the weather. A hot day calls for Kota Doria or Cotton. An evening wedding is for gaji silk. Everything else in between is for georgette.
Colors To Choose From
We have 18 colors in our range. The color that we have in most numbers is red (57), followed by pink (55) and green (39).
In Rajasthan, colors have significance attached to them. Red is worn by brides and married women during special occasions. Yellow is for Teej and Haldi functions. Green is for monsoons and new beginnings. Pink and Rani are the colors which you wear on all festive days. White and cream are in demand for weddings and mehendi.
There is no hard and fast rule. But if you are buying clothes for a particular occasion, it will help you make your selection quicker.
Lehenga According to the Occasion
Wedding or Bridal. Use gaji silk or heavy zari embroidery. Choose red, rani or maroon colours. These are the outfits that have maximum hand embroidery.
Haldi: Yellow, light fabric. Kota Doria gota patti is ideal for such an occasion.
Mehendi: Green or multi-coloured. As you are going to be sitting for long hours, use georgette or chiffon.
Sangeet: You have to dance. Lightweight is preferable over heavyweight.
Reception: Use organza or silk with mirror work or cutdana work.
Teej, Gangaur celebrations: Bandhani and leheriya printing. Vibrant and traditional.
Family occasions and pujas: Minimalist gota patti in cotton or Kota Doria fabric.

Components Included in the Kit
Each lehenga from our collection is available as a complete set. Skirt, choli and dupatta. The sizing chart for each piece is provided on the corresponding page.
If you fall between two sizes, opt for the larger one. The good news is that lehengas are easy to alter in size by any local tailor.
How Do I Look After It?
Wash in dry cleaning for the first time. Always.
Then, wash by hand in cold water using mild soap. No soaking.
Dry in the shade. Exposing to sunlight causes bright colors to fade.
Fold and store in a cotton bag and not in a plastic one. Handcraft requires breathing room.
Iron at medium heat, covering with a piece of cloth. Direct ironing is never done on gota patti and stone embroidery work.
